How Your Donation Makes a Difference

About Us

Blood diseases such as Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma can strike any one at any time. When all other treatment has failed, a bone marrow transplant is their only chance of survival.

When patients are unable to find a matching donor within their family, they come to us in search of a Matched Unrelated Donor (MUD), who could give them a second chance at life. As finding a MUD means a healthy donor with the same DNA profile, the odds of finding that unique match is very low.

Thus since 1993, we at the Bone Marrow Donor Programme (BMDP) are committed to building and managing Singapore's only register of volunteer marrow donors. Providing hope for patients suffering from blood-related diseases.

Our Programmes

Your financial donation helps to drive our daily work to achieve the goal of 'A Donor for Every Patient':

(1) Patient Subsidy Schemes
These give financial aid to patients at different stages of their journey towards a second chance at life. Covering aspects such as the Hematopoietic Progenitor Cells Procurement, Transplant-Related costs (e.g. medication, procedures), and even Post- Transplant Allowances to help them during their long and difficult recovery period.

(2) Marrow Donor Recruitment and Public Education
Every day we work with all community sectors to hold drives and public roadshows. Every volunteer marrow donor added to the Singapore register increases the chances of finding that unique match!

If you are aged between 18 and 49, visit (https://bmdp.org/be-a-donor-3/) to request for a cheek swab kit to be mailed to you to sign up in the convenience of your own home!

(3) Search to Transplant Services
Patients' search requests from local hospitals and overseas registries come in daily. Logistics arrangements are made to ensure the precious life-saving package is hand-carried to reach the patient for transplant in critical time.

(4) Provide Attentive Care for Marrow Donors
When a match is found with a local donor, we walk through every step of the donation journey with them - holding information and counselling sessions to address concerns, bringing them for medical workups, and following up with them after their marrow donation.
