SWS was incepted in 1997 with the vision to provide meaningful care, support and counselling services to engage the elderly, the sick, the lost and the lonely, irrespective of race or religion.

In that same year, Salem Daycare and Rehabilitation Centre for the elderly was established in Yishun ( Blk 323, Yishun Central) as a result of this vision. Services at the Centre included physiotherapy, exercise, socio-recreational activities, nursing care and day care facilities. Salem Daycare and Rehabilitation Centre is currently partnered with St Luke's Elderly care and will reopen its doors after renovations in 2023.

In response to these real challenges, SWS has been setting up community care services with engagement activities in 3 centres:

- SWS Onesimus Village@Kebun Baru
- SWS Onesimus Village@Thomson Hills
- SWS Onesimus Village@Yishun (opening at end 2023)

Volunteers from befriending services make home visitations to help care for the emotional and psychological well-being of the elderly, often assuring them and listening to their concerns and problems.
