About Us

ItsRainingRaincoats (IRR) is an organisation that aims to improve the lives of migrant workers in Singapore, by building bridges to strengthen their integration into our community, city and country. We employ authentic and nimble strategies to help improve the quality of the workers' lives and make them feel valued, appreciated, safe and welcome in Singapore. Our raincoat emblem symbolizes the protection we provide them from their metaphorical thunderstorms.

Started in 2015, IRR was founded by Harvard-educated lawyer Dipa Swaminathan. She is supported by an amazing team of dedicated professionals who volunteer their time and energies in the name of a common calling.

We have come a long way since, with a huge team of over 500 volunteers and several awards. Behind us as the wind beneath our wings is a wide network of connections among migrant workers, employers, dorm operators, contractors and sub-contractors, government agencies, NGOs, the media and members of the public who collectively form the village that allows us to do what we do. We have a combined social media following of nearly 30,000 and growing. Our journey so far has been organic and when we are asked what our plans for growth are, the answer is simple: we will continue to evolve organically, extend our branches where the needs are and not be limited by a clinical blue print. The only constant is growth.

Our Programmes

We keep ourselves busy all year round. One of our primary drivers is to help find imaginative, easy and innovative ways to integrate migrant workers into the Singapore community. Towards that end, IRR has organized various outreach program over the years. Initiatives for Christmas, CNY, Deepavali and Hari Raya allow us the opportunity to celebrate festivities with the worker-community and show them our appreciation for the work they do. This also provides a platform for Singaporeans to interact with migrant workers in different settings.

Our activities include:
- Starbucks Drive (unsold food distribution)
- MADWISH (online English tutoring)
- Annual Potluck
- Food & Essentials (donor matching)
- Holiday Festivities (e.g. CNY Bazaar, We Have A Dream (Christmas gift drive), Hari Raya)
- Worker Assistance (e.g. injuries, familial support, salaries)
- Excursions (e.g. Singapore Flyer rides)
- Data Card Drive ($10 topups)
- Corporate Outreach
- Educational Outreach (e.g. school talks)
- Covid-19 Support (e.g. hotline, fundraising, meals, donations, counselling, resource website)
