About Us

Started in 1952 by the late Mr KP Bhaskar, a doyen of Indian traditional arts in Singapore, we are the oldest and premier Indian performing arts group in Singapore.

We aim to create, produce, present and promote traditional Indian dance, music and theatre performances that are ingrained in our uniquely evolving style of art-making that is reflective of the Singapore spirit and its' multiculturalism, while being rooted in traditional techniques and philosophy, to domestic and international audiences.

Our Programmes

We stage three to four performances a year including works in Bharathanatyam, Kathak, traditonal Indian music, Katahkali and Therukoothu. Most of our performances are accompanied by live music performed by our resident musicians.

We also believe that it is important to develop Singapore's own pool of artistes in all the traditional art forms. The Academy provides a platform for talented local young artistes to perform on stage and gain valuable stage exposure. Dancers with potential are carefully selected to join the Core Dancers' Programme, which trains and grooms them for performers.

A strong believer in reaching out to the community, the Academy continues to work with several organisations to bring the arts to those who may otherwise not have the opportunity to enjoy traditional Indian arts.
