About Us

Established in 1976, APSN is a social service agency providing special education for our community with mild intellectual disability (IQ 50-70). Today, APSN operates four Special Education (SPED) Schools (APSN Chaoyang School, APSN Katong School, APSN Tanglin School and APSN Delta Senior School) for students aged 7 to 21, an APSN Student Care Centre for children aged 7 to 18 and an APSN Centre for Adults for persons aged 16 and older, benefiting over 1,200 beneficiaries each year.

The APSN Schools and Centres adopt a holistic approach in its curriculum, comprising academic, vocational and social skills, which are important for open employment and lifelong learning. APSN seeks to enable persons with special needs to be active contributors of the society and is committed to inspire and build capabilities of its partners and community to lead and advocate an inclusive society.
To date, APSN's growing database has more than 5,000 beneficiaries, comprising students, trainees and alumni. The Association is constantly expanding its network to reach out to and understand the needs of its members to better support them.

Our Programmes

APSN offers two programmes for children with special needs aged 7-12 years of age:
1. The Mild Intellectual Disability (MID) General
Programme builds up the core competencies of students in the areas of Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Aesthetics and Life Skills.
2. The Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Structured Programme prepares students in the spectrum for integration into the MID General Programme through sensory play, direct teaching and repetitive practice.

For youth with special needs aged 13 to 16, secondary and post-secondary training is available to hone their budding skill sets in the core areas of Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Aesthetics and Life Skills. An added component of Vocational Education is introduced to give students exposure into workplace skills.

Every student aged 16 to 21 who qualifies for the certification track at APSN DSS will have the opportunity to attempt and obtain the Statements of Attainment (SOA) for all the modules offered in one of the following four Work Skills Qualification (WSQ) vocational training programmes provided: Food Services, Hotel & Accommodation Services, Horticulture and Retail Operations.

At APSN Centre for Adults, trainees aged 18 and above receive realistic on-the-job training before they are ready for the workforce. The enterprises allow a realistic work training in five domains of Bakery, Cafe, Catering, Contract Work and Design & Retail.
