The Asian Film Archive (AFA) is a non-profit organisation founded in 2005 to save, explore and share the art of Asian Cinema. It has a growing collection of over 2,700 film titles that are available for public reference at the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library.
Film preservation allows cinematic treasures to be viewed by future audiences.
The AFA promotes a wider critical appreciation of Asian cinema through specially curated programmes. Within the AFA's collection are the films of award-winning Asian filmmakers like Lav Diaz, U-Wei Haji Saari, Tan Chui Mui, and Singapore filmmakers Eric Khoo and Anthony Chen. AFA is home to the Cathay-Keris Malay Classics Collection, Singapore's only moving image collection inscribed into the UNESCO Memory of the World Asia-Pacific Register that recognises endangered, unique library and archive holdings.
AFA belongs to international networks like the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), the Southeast Asia-Pacific Audiovisual Archive Association (SEAPAVAA) and the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA ).
