Taufiq*, 17, plays football with the SportCares Saturday Night Lights football programme. He often comes hungry for training because he hasn’t eaten all day, but despite that, he is one of our top volunteers and a disciplined athlete. When he is home, he loves to help his mother prepare meals.
Lina*, 15, lives with her mother and six siblings in a one-room rental flat. Her mother leaves the house by 6m and rarely returns before 8pm. Lina is a young footballer who trains in borrowed shoes. She has qualified for the National Women’s U19 team.
Ameril*, 18, plays Saturday Night Lights football. He loves training and playing with SportCares because he appreciates the fairness and commitment to all players. He says that his single-parent family often misses meals as they try to save money for rent. When asked how many meals the family eats daily, he says, “It depends on how much money we have.”
