For the past 30 years, Mrs Tan* took care of her frail husband all by herself. However, as Mrs Tan was getting on in years, she found it increasingly difficult to cope with 87-year-old Mr Tan's needs. To help reduce her burden in the daytime, Mr Tan began attending Peacehaven Changi Day Centre in June 2020. His wife was pleased with this arrangement as it still allowed her to be close to him as they lived nearby.

However, in September 2020, the situation changed. Mrs Tan was hospitalised and she was unable to continue caring for her husband due to her own medical condition. Mrs Tan then made the difficult decision to admit Mr Tan into Peacehaven Nursing Home. Initially, Mr Tan found it challenging to adjust but as time passed, he warmed up to the staff around him. Our staff was able to engage with Mr Tan and ensure that he is well cared for at the Home. Despite being apart from his wife, Mr Tan is grateful to Peacehaven for meeting his needs and for allowing him to enjoy quality time with his wife during their visits.

At The Salvation Army, we are committed to looking after people in need like Mr Tan. Through our wide range of social programmes, we care for the elderly, vulnerable children, struggling families, underprivileged youth and isolated migrant workers. Let us not forget the underprivileged and please give generously to bring joy into their lives.

About the Charity

The Salvation Army has been touching lives in Singapore since 1935 and we remain committed in serving the underprivileged in the community without discrimination. To us, every life is precious and we actively help those in need regardless of age, race or religion.

Throughout the years, we have established a comprehensive network of social services to meet a wide range of needs in our community. Our diverse programmes reach out to children who need care and protection, families in material need, ailing aged requiring quality nursing care, isolated migrant workers and other needy segments in our society.

Your support goes a long way in helping to transform our beneficiaries lives. Because of your kindness, many can have hope for tomorrow.
