About Campaign

ends 31 Jul 2020, 11:59 PM
Our April to July calendar was meant to be filled with 3 tours, 1 world premiere and a monthlong festival. But here we are at home in this very moment as the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic temporarily puts a pause on the entire world.

As we adhere to the circuit breaker measures enforced in Singapore, our homes have become our studios for daily training sessions, and our laptops and mobile phones have turned into continuous discussion channels where we collectively reflect, plan and implement what's next for the company and the festival.

Yet, as we cope with the costs that have already been incurred and our own lack of income streams due to the postponements and cancellations of programmes, we are also well aware of how our production personnel and festival artists have had their incomes affected in such a time as this.

Hence, this fundraising campaign is to appeal for your support, so that even as we work to bring you some digital content this year and plan for several programmes to be rescheduled to next year, we can continue to pay the freelancers whom we were committed to this year, and cover some of our sunk costs.

Your kind support have always meant a lot to us and the overall arts scene in Singapore, and every dollar will count especially more so in this time. If you can afford to and if you are willing to, we urge you to donate to this campaign. We look forward to the day when we can, once again, bring you quality face-to-face experiences of contemporary dance.

About the Charity

Described as a dance company 'at the top of its game', The Human Expression Dance Company (T.H.E), along with our semi-professional training arm, T.H.E Second Company, are names synonymous with ground breaking contemporary dance of the highest quality and artistry.

Founded in 2008 by Artistic Director Kuik Swee Boon with 6 members, T.H.E has become a household name in Singapore and the region, having commissioned and performed at most major local arts festivals and in prestigious international festivals such as Les Hivernales Festival in Avignon, France; Oriente Occidente Festival in Rovereto, Italy; SIDance Festival and Seoul Performing Arts Festival in South Korea; amongst others.

With our unique brand of highly physical and kinetic works, T.H.E digs deep into the universal human experience. At the heart of our works lies a connection with heritage and collective history as Singaporeans, juxtaposed with incisive, insightful observations on modern society: elements that set apart our repertoire of original creations. A continual pursuit of authentic expression led Kuik to initiate the "hollow body" methodology. The practice aims to nurture our dancers as all-rounded performers able to convey the essence of their identity and lived experiences through the full spectrum of physical, emotional, philosophical and meaningful expression.

T.H.E is a registered charity with IPC status.
