Mothers. They already loved us before we were born.

During our nine-month stay in their tummies, they made countless sacrifices for our sake, such as foregoing their favourite food, cutting back on activities, enduring aches and pains and sleeping discomforts and the like.....

Immediately after we were born, they endured lack of sleep because we woke them up many times throughout the night with our crying. Their breasts ached with pain from breast-feeding us. They looked in the mirror with bittersweet memories of their pre-pregnancy figures. They became 'worriers', especially when we are out partying with friends all night, or travelling solo in a foreign country. They learnt what forgiveness really means, whenever we hurt them either with our words or actions, and yet, they chose to forgive and love us, over and over and over again.

Mothers - their lives are never the same again that very moment we barged into their lives.

We dedicate this Mother's Day to all the mothers around us.

Thank you for your unconditional love and tender-loving care.

About the Charity

A Shelter for needy elderly persons.

Established in Dec. 1958, St. John's Home for Elderly Persons is a Sheltered Home for elderly persons who are ambulant and aged above 60.

Our Mission is to provide shelter and care to meet the physical and spiritual needs of elderly persons who have no home and no children or close relatives with adequate resources to care for them.
The Home is open to all regardless of race or creed.

We are not a government-subvented Home and depend largely on the public's generosity to enable us to continue our work as a Registered Charity.

Since the Home started operations in December 1958, we have been located at our present site at 69 Wan Tho Avenue. In 2015, the Government granted us a fresh 30-year lease on a reduced land area. Concurrently, we also entered into a three-plus-three year tenancy agreement on the land that we are currently occupying.

We are now building a new five-storey building on the 30-year lease land to maximise on the plot ratio of 1.4 prescribed for the land. When we move into the new building, we shall increase our licensed capacity to 150. Construction began in Nov 2018, with target completion in Mar 2021.

We appeal for your support of building a new Home, so our elderly residents will not be displaced. Please donate generously. Thank you.

The Home is a recipient of the President's Award for Philanthropy 2014, the Charity Transparency Award 2019, 2018, Community in Bloom Award 2018, 2016, 2014.
