About Campaignends 01 Jun 2018, 11:59 PM
The new Home will provide improved elderly facilities for our elderly residents.
The estimated cost of the project is $14 million. As we are not a Government-subsidized Home, we depend on the generous support of donors to help us raise this amount.
The new Home will also increase our capacity of care from 102 to 150.
Thank you for partnering us to build a future Home for our elderly residents.
About the Charity
Established in Dec 1958, St. John's Home for Elderly Persons is a Sheltered Home for elderly persons who are ambulant and aged above 60.
Our Mission is to provide shelter and care to meet the physical and spiritual needs of elderly persons who have no home and no children or close relatives with adequate resources to care for them.
The Home is open to all regardless of race or creed.
We are not a government-subvented Home and depend largely on the public's generosity to enable us to continue our work as a Registered Charity.
Since the Home started operations in December 1958, we have been located at our present site at 69 Wan Tho Avenue. In 2015, the Government granted us a fresh 30-year lease on a reduced land area. Concurrently, we also entered into a three-plus-three year tenancy agreement on the land that we are currently occupying.
We are now building a new 5-storey building on the 30-year lease land to maximise on the plot ratio of 1.4 prescribed for the land. When we move into the new building, we shall increase our licensed capacity to 150. Construction began in Nov 2018, with target completion in Mar 2021.
We appeal for your support of building a new Home, so our elderly residents will not be displaced. Please donate generously. Thank you.
The Home is a recipient of the President's Award for Philanthropy 2014, the Charity Transparency Award (2019, 2018), Community in Bloom Award 2014, 2016, 2018.
