About Campaignends 31 Dec 2018, 11:59 PM
Since we opened in December 1958, God has blessed us with indefatigable volunteers, generous donors, dedicated staff and visionary leaders.
God has blessed us especially bountifully in 2018. We are able to house within our Home every resident in the four dormitories being demolished for the new building, more volunteers and good results from our physiotherapy and counselling programmes.
The heartwarming effort of 8 residents aged between 66 and 91 who mastered smartphones to make a fundraising video (watch: https://www.giving.sg/StJohnsHomeSg/SeniorsOnline2018) attracted the attention of President Halimah Yacob, who graced the Home with a visit on 27th September 2018.
Groundbreaking for the new building was on 1st September. We expect it to be completed by Christmas 2020.
Thank you for your support over the years. We need your support to continue caring for and bringing smiles to our elderly. May we again ask for your support.
Everyone of us in St John's Home for Elderly Persons wishes you and your family Peace, Joy and Happiness!
About the Charity
#SGUnited #GiveYour600 #SGCares
Established in Dec 1958, St. John's Home for Elderly Persons is a Sheltered Home for elderly persons who are ambulant and aged above 60.
Our Mission is to provide shelter and care to meet the physical and spiritual needs of elderly persons who have no home and no children or close relatives with adequate resources to care for them.
The Home is open to all regardless of race or creed.
We are not a government-subvented Home and depend largely on the public's generosity to enable us to continue our work as a Registered Charity.
Since the Home started operations in December 1958, we have been located at our present site at 69 Wan Tho Avenue. In 2015, the Government granted us a fresh 30-year lease on a reduced land area. Concurrently, we also entered into a three-plus-three year tenancy agreement on the land that we are currently occupying.
We are now building a new five-storey building on the 30-year lease land to maximise on the plot ratio of 1.4 prescribed for the land. When we move into the new building, we shall increase our licensed capacity to 150. Construction began in Nov 2018, with target completion in Mar 2021.
We appeal for your support of building a new Home, so our elderly residents will not be displaced. Please donate generously. Thank you.
The Home is a recipient of the President's Award for Philanthropy 2014, the Charity Transparency Award 2019, 2018, Community in Bloom Award 2018, 2016, 2014.
