About Campaign

SPD works with a transport service provider to provide dedicated service on retrofitted vehicles for people with moderate to severe disabilities like John, who cannot commute by public transport, to ferry them from home to SPD for care services.

John has Cerebral Palsy and is dependent on others for his activities of daily living. The 41-year-old is currently staying with his elderly mother in a 3-room flat. His 73-year-old mother is his primary caregiver and is working as a scrap dealer (karung guni) to support the family.

John relies on SPD's specialised transport to get to SPD's Day Activity Centre (DAC) where he learns self-help skills such as buttoning and unbuttoning his shirt. Due to the family's limited financial resources, his transport fees are fully subsidised, and this made it possible for John to continue benefiting from the care that the DAC provides and gives respite to his mother.

Every month, an average of $18,000 in transport subsidies is provided to over 70 people with disabilities, majority of whom has severe physical and multiple disabilities from low-income families.

Please donate to help relieve the financial burdens of our people with disabilities and their families.

About the Charity

SPD is a local charity set up in 1964 to help people with disabilities maximise their potential and be a part of mainstream society.

We are here to help children and youths with special needs reach for the stars and be the best that they can be through early intervention and educational support.

We strive to boost the self-reliance and mobility of persons with disabilities within the community, and we do so through therapy services, assistive technology and the support and encouragement of our care team.

Our day care programmes provide respite to families, making it possible for persons with disabilities to stay with their loved ones at home for as long as possible without having to resort to institutional care.

A strong advocate for inclusive employment, we train people with disabilities and work with them to seek suitable employment opportunities so that they can be financially independent and lead a full and engaged life.

After more than 50 years, we remain focused and committed to enabling people with disabilities.
