“Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.” - Vivian Greene

Waiting in anticipation and with hope yearning for the covid-19 storm to pass. The longing to go out freely with our loved ones to experience nature; to soak in the bustling city. These are no longer possible today.

The same goes for the over 350 elderly staying at the nursing home at 130 Hougang Ave 1. The famous Lorong Ah Soo market with its lor mee, hokkien mee and many other delicacies. So near, yet so far.

Outings have been limited and restricted due to the unsettling covid-19 situation worldwide. Our residents, being one of the most vulnerable groups, have been obediently staying in the Home for their safety. Days in the Home seem longer, with a sharp drop in volunteers coming to the Home to bring cheer and joy to the elderly.

As we can no longer bring them out for a meal, the nursing home aims to bring hawker delights (comfort food) to them. For every $10 you donate, you allow each elderly in the nursing home to enjoy a nice hawker meal or tea-time snack. This has a secondary impact: To help those hawkers impacted by covid-19, our efforts will be a small -- but essential -- form of support for these old aunties and uncles who are striving to make ends meet.

In such challenging times, we can be bitter, or choose to be better. Let's do better for the elderly in the society.

About the Charity

Society for the Aged Sick (SAS) is a non-profit nursing home that provides long-term residential and respite care services for the elderly, especially the less-privileged.

With a team of committed healthcare professionals and caregivers, we believe in adding years of quality life to our residents through holistic caregiving.

Established in 1968 as a 16-bedded facility, we now have 404 beds in our current location.

We hope to create a home within a home environment where our residents can enjoy professional and individualized care. Every resident is treated with respect, and we affirm that our residents' dignity is at the core of our work.

Fundraising can help to raise more and change more lives.
