Keep Shakespeare in the Park Alive
About Campaignends 30 Apr 2018, 11:59 PM
Dear theatre lover,
Please help bring Shakespeare in the Park back. For the same amount you might spend on one fancy cup of coffee a month, you could change the life of one young person forever. Students are brought up to think that Shakespeare is a dull, incomprehensible textbook to be memorised.
SRT's Shakespeare in the Park was started over a decade ago to change all that. It was to change the perception that Shakespeare is too difficult. To make it accessible. To make it fun! To instil a love of literature, theatre, and the arts. Parents and children have come year after year and bonded over a picnic and a great night out. Lovers have come and shared a blanket under the stars. It is a magical experience.
SRT loses money every time we stage a production in the park. We have persevered because we believe it is important. This year, we chose not to continue because the losses were too high. It has been wonderfully encouraging to have received numerous emails from people saying that Shakespeare in the Park has become a much-loved annual tradition for many and that we must bring it back next year.
With your help, we hope to do just that! Our aim is to stage Julius Caesar next May, set in a modern contemporary setting. Given everything that is happening in the world, there isn't a more relevant play than this for our times.
Please support our crowdfunding campaign to save Shakespeare in the Park. We need your support!
The SRT Team
Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) has established itself as one of the leading theatre companies in Asia. We reach out to over 125,000 people annually through our productions and programmes. We have also produced outstanding new musicals such as A Twist of Fate and Forbidden City: Portrait of an Empress. SRT also stages Asia's largest Shakespeare in the Park, has brought together over 250,000 people during the nine productions staged in the series. For younger audiences, SRT's The Little Company (TLC) stages popular titles such as Red Riding Hood and Charlotte's Web. Over 65,000 children, parents and teachers experience the magic of our TLC productions every year. Every year, SRT's Student Education Fund (SRTSEF) enables over 1,500 children to come and watch our TLC productions.
