ends 31 May 2022, 11:59 PM For Muslim friends, Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community, and Hari Raya Puasa, which marks the end of Ramadan - a time of forgiveness and strengthening of bonds.
With the return of Ramadan Bazaars and gathering of bigger groups after a two-year hiatus, Ramadan festivities are in full swing. For some, the notion of celebrating occasions with family and friends, and enjoying sumptuous foods, is akin to a star in the sky - it is there, but out of reach.
Meet our Family LifeAid Beneficiary, Zakiah Hanim binte Othman.
Zakiah works multiple jobs tirelessly to make ends meet. Despite having a diploma, the income from her full-time job was barely enough to make ends meet.
In 2016, her husband lost his job after suffering a bad fall. He was also diagnosed with diabetes and blocked arteries. Compounding these were her own health conditions - asthma and diabetes.
Snacks like crackers and sweet treats that spark joy for most children are now rare treats for the family. Regardless, her three children remain understanding and grateful for what they have.
Since receiving monthly supermarket vouchers from the Singapore Red Cross in July 2021, the family's financial burdens have been alleviated and Zakiah is grateful for the help she received.
There are many families like Zakiah's, who need a helping hand. We would like to make this Hari Raya special for them by sharing the joy of food and celebrations. We hope you will join us in making this happen!
