Dear Friend,

Mr De Silva Petiyaga Arther Bernard has been living alone since his wife and daughter passed away. As he suffers from a range of heart and health problems, Mr De Silva fears he may collapse in his flat, without anyone there to help him. Arthritis and knee problems have also limited his mobility and he cannot walk or stand for long. He misses his family very much and spends most of his days watching TV or lying down.

His lonely days are brightened when CLARE volunteers visit him. He enjoys sharing memories of his youth with the volunteers, regaling them with his love for dancing and music from his days as a young man.

Mr De Silva enthused, "Besides visiting me every fortnight, the CLARE volunteers also call me regularly to check if I'm doing well. They are very good, very sincere and very helpful."

The simple joy of friendship has helped Mr De Silva to adopt a positive outlook on life.

Since the launch of ElderAid, and within its first year alone, over 38 elderly beneficiaries have benefitted from the friendship and support of our neighbourhood-based network of CLARE volunteers. Our CLARE volunteers are trained in providing first response, first aid, psychological support, eldercare and befriending services through fortnightly visits to our beneficiaries.

You can help the vulnerable elderly and give the gift of care and friendship today, by subsidizing the training costs of volunteer befrienders who visit them.

On behalf of our beneficiaries, thank you.
