About Campaign

Battling cancer is a tough journey, but with care from family, friends, healthcare workers and support from Singapore Cancer Society (SCS), 63-year-old survivor, Mdm Yan Siew Ghiang, found help in her fight against cancer. She hangs on to the belief that there will always be light at the end of the tunnel.

In April 2020, she was diagnosed with Stage 2 invasive breast cancer. She was shocked by the diagnosis and the cost of her cancer treatment.

“The overall bill for treatment came up to over a hundred thousand dollars," she recounted. Despite receiving subsidies for her treatment, it was insufficient to fully alleviate her burdens from costly medical bills and drugs.

Fortunately, her Oncologist recommended her to SCS where she was assisted through SCS Cancer Treatment Fund. Last year, SCS disbursed up to $1,000,000 to help 224 patients in need so they can focus on their recovery rather than worry about bills.

Siew Ghiang recounted how having aid and close guidance from a SCS case worker through the fund application allowed her to focus on her recovery with a peace of mind. “It does a lot of wonders to my life, as I don't need to worry about my payments,” she said.

Cancer treatments pose a significant financial challenge to most patients and their loved ones. This Christmas, be their Light of Hope with your gift. Your support will assure others that they are not alone in their fight against cancer.
Thank you.
