SGH Department of Orthopaedic Surgery aims to help 200 elderly Singaporeans regain mobility with total knee replacements to mark Singapore General Hospital's 200th anniversary in 2021.

Osteoarthritis is a disabling condition affecting people aged 50 and above. Patients with osteoarthritis have difficulties in movement and daily activities like walking and climbing stairs. Even while resting, they can also experience severe pain in their knees.

Total knee replacement is the gold standard when non-surgical options are no longer effective. Studies have reported that over 90% of patients are still able to function normally 20 years following their knee replacements. The out of pocket cost for these patients will start from $1,916 onwards. The package includes inpatient stay, treatment fees, X-rays, implants, rehabilitative services as well as two physiotherapy and nurse home visits. This sum is prohibitive for many vulnerable seniors, particularly those affected by the current economic climate.

Your donation will go a long way in helping these patients regain their mobility and integrate back to society, positively improving their quality of life. Your generosity will leave a lasting impact on patients and their families.

All eligible donations will enjoy 250% tax deduction.

Available funds after serving 200 patients will be used to advance initiatives in education, research and patient care under the Division of Musculoskeletal Sciences.
