About Relay Majulah
Relay Majulah is a ground-up initiative to form a 200-runners team to conquer 2,000km over 200 hours (2-10 Nov 2019) to raise funds for President's Challenge and its 67 supported charities; and to commemorate Singapore's 200 years. It also aims to unite the community, for the community; and tell the inspiring stories of people with indomitable spirit, who live life to the full and live life without limits.

David Shum is an accredited running coach with the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) and the International Association of Athletics Federation. He sustained a knee injury during training more than a decade ago. Then, he had increased his running mileage from 20km one week to 30km the next, putting in more than the recommended 10 per cent increase in intensity each week. The result: Pain shot up his left knee during the 30km run. He gritted his teeth and completed a marathon three weeks later, a decision he calls "a stupid move" now. The recovery journey and route were arduous juggling family, social, work and the status of being injured. Despite this setback, he was steadfast and willing to start from scratch to retrain, re-programme and re-educate himself by seeking relevant information to overcome this major hindrance.

I am pleased to be part of this Relay Majulah initiative, to show the unity spirit amongst our community by our coming together. Come, support me through this cause in the spirit of giving from the heart. - David Shum

About the Charity

The President's Challenge is an annual community outreach and fundraising campaign for charities selected every year by the President's Office. It is a call to all Singaporeans in doing their part in building a more caring and inclusive society.

In 2012, under the leadership of former President Tony Tan Keng Yam, the Challenge was expanded to go beyond fundraising by including volunteerism and social

In 2018, President Halimah Yacob announced a $10 million fund (Empowering For Life Fund) which will empower vulnerable groups through skills upgrading, capacity-building and employment.
