PPIS Early Childhood School Transport Fund
About Campaignends 30 Nov 2016, 12 AM
Azri* and Azmi* are K1 and K2 students of PPIS Early Childhood Education (Bukit Batok) centre. Both their parents are in prison and they are taken care of by their grandparents who are dependant on financial assistance. Both students received fee subsidies from ECDA. However, they have difficulty paying the monthly school transport fees that are about $170 each.
Diana* and Hisham* are another pair of siblings studying at the same centre at Nursery and K1 level. Recently, their father had a very bad accident and the family is in financial crisis. Due to this, they are not able to pay the monthly transport fees.
In both cases, each family has to fork out a sum of about $4,000 per year just on the transport fees of two children. This is a huge sum for a family with low income. At PPIS we encounter about six to 10 such cases per year that require a total assistance of about $20,400.

Sarah*, who is in Primary 3, always looks forward to being in our student care centre after school. "How come?" You might ask. Well, for a start, she always feels like it is her second home while mum's hard at work. She gets the love and care from 'aunties' and 'sisters' as well as yummy home cooked meals. Not to mention the many friends she has at the centre who learn and play together with her. Like Sarah, many other students from low income or single parent families get the care and guidance they need after school while their parents make ends meet. We strive to keep our fees as low as possible while these students enjoy all the extra enrichment programmes and activities at no additional cost. Your generous contribution goes a long way in giving these children the joy that every child deserves. Thank you. *Name has been changed to protect the beneficiary's identity.
