Playeum runs high-touch STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) programmes for at-risk children. Playeum's specially crafted STEAM workshops incorporate it's very own pedagogy and aims to help at-risk children with low academic achievements increase their confidence levels, resilience, skills, innovation as well as their social and emotional learning.

With these intervention programmes tailored to children from at-risk backgrounds, Playeum looks to break the cycles that hold them back by striving for long term impact and inspiring children to take charge of their own circumstances and be able to meet their fullest potential. Through open-ended play, children become masters of their own worlds, where creating, exploring, conquering fears, negotiating, making decisions and resolving conflicts become second nature.

The programme includes learning to code, applying coding on Sphero robots, and using morse code and spin art kids to explore connections. One of the participants, Aniq said, "I get bored in school because all the teachers try to make us become more interested in the topic by talking, but if the teaching method could be more like this, we will be keen to learn". When asked what else he learned at this week at the workshop, he shared, "I learned to help other people that are in need."

About the Charity

Playeum is a registered charity with an Institution of a Public Character (IPC) status established in 2013. We use play and the arts to develop confidence and life skills in children, especially children from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with special needs. We close the opportunity divides for children and transform mindsets of adults through play-based programmes, adult education, and research.

Over the last 5 years, we partner with schools, self-help groups, and social service agencies to impact more than 62,000 children and their adults.
