Zakat which purifies, also known as Zakat harta "zakat on wealth" is a form of alms-giving treated in Islam as a religious obligation or tax.

As one of the Five Pillars of Islam, zakat is a religious obligation for all Muslims who meet the necessary criteria of wealth.

It is a mandatory charitable contribution, the right of the poor to find relief from the rich and is considered to be a tax, or obligatory alms.

About the Charity

PERTAPIS was registered under the Societies Act in 1970. It is an approved organisation under the Charities Act, Cap 37 and has also been conferred the status of an Institution of Public Character (IPC), IPC No: IPC000455 and can issue a tax-exempt receipt for donations.

The principal activity of PERTAPIS is the running of welfare projects which are designed to address some of the social problems faced by the community. These projects include the running of welfare homes, providing social support for needy families and educational services.
