Many people in the Nepali community do not have tailoring skills as the Nepali culture used to forbid women to learn the skill.
However, the culture is changing, and women are allowed to learn to tailor.
This opens up livelihood opportunities to women, who are often the source of life in the family due to their prudence in finances.

Mina and her husband were struggling to pay for their basic needs and were unable to rebuild their house. Mina's husband eventually had to go to Dubai to work for a living. Mina then heard about a tailoring training course in her village and decided to go for it.

'I am learning different tailoring skills. When I complete this training, I hope to start a tailoring shop. I am thankful for this training which has provided hope to many other women like me. I started sewing clothes for the community members and I earned Rs 5000 (SGD$60.10) last month,' Mina said.

Your donation will help:
- Tailoring training to 24 women from the Lalitpur district to equip them with sewing skills
- Provide sewing machines to 10 selected beneficiaries who display diligence, aptitude and the right attitude during the training

The women will be taught to sew of 30-40 items during their 3-4 months training.

Beneficiaries of this programme are often from the lowest caste in Nepal. Even though Nepal has banned caste system-based discrimination, lower caste groups still face discrimination.

Empower a woman today and send a poverty-defeating gift!
