In the aftermath of the 2015 earthquakes in Nepal, many half-finished houses stand on the mountainous villages. In July 2017, the government encouraged affected Nepalis to apply for reconstruction subsidies. The reconstruction subsidy is to be disbursed in 3 tranches.

Villagers use the money from the 1st tranche to purchase the material needed to build the foundation of the house. With the foundation completed, they are then eligible for the 2nd tranche payout. The process of waiting to receive the first 2 grants can take as long as 6 months.

To receive the last trench of subsidy, the villagers have to build the walls of their houses and gain approval from the government engineers on the design of the house. However, inadequate engineers slow down the processes of the building, construction, and approval of the house.

Many villagers are still waiting for the 3rd trench payment. Without the last pay-out, the building is stunted which causes villagers to live in incomplete houses or make-shift shelters. The upcoming winter months (December and January) will worsen their predicament.

Every $1,500 raised is equivalent to the 3rd tranche grant which the villagers desperately need to fully build their house. Your donation provides security and meets the basic needs of a family. In the event that the government disburses the 3rd tranche subsidy to our beneficiaries, the grant will be handed to OHF, who will provide the same aid for other families in similar situations.
