What is it like to learn that your parent is in prison? Or worse, watching them arrested in front of your own eyes?

When an individual goes to prison, little has been said about how the children can be at the extreme losing end. The children often grappled with the silent sadness, crippling anxiety and loneliness going through such a traumatic experience. Forced to carry on with daily lives without the person whom they love the most, some may even choose to hide away from their peers and community to avoid the social stigma and feelings of shame.

There is also the real risk of intergenerational offending - according to a 2020 study by MSF and NCSS, these children and youths are about three times more likely to offend. When we take a closer look at children with drug abusing parents, one in every five 2 of them is very likely to experience intergenerational offending (Info source: Singapore Prison Service, Correctional Research Branch).

Yet, we choose to see them beyond their circumstances. Through the Neu Empowerment Model comprising four pillars of education, personal voice, growth, and nurturing environment, we hope to provide holistic empowerment to all the children and youths under our care.
