About Campaign

My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 and was given a prognosis of 5 years. She underwent a mastectomy and received chemotherapy and radiation to contain the cancer. Unfortunately, the cancer spread to the brain in 2005 and she had to undergo another surgery.

Sometimes when her pain becomes unbearable, I had to give her morphine injections to relieve her suffering. It was heart-wrenching to see her in pain and visibly growing weaker as the days wore on.

The experiences I had over those difficult few years eventually spurred me on to quit my job to pursue medicine at Duke-NUS. Over the years, research has led to the discovery of new cancer drugs which are able to improve treatment outcomes, reduce harmful side-effects to give patients' better quality of life. I hope that by sharing my story, I can galvanize more support for Run for Hope to increase awareness for cancer research.

I am doing my part by joining Run for Hope on 21 Jan 2018. From 16 to 17 February 2018, I pledge to go the extra mile to take part in a 100km Jungle Trail Ultramarathon in Thailand, wearing the Run for Hope T-shirt. The route is unforgiving with rough terrains of a net elevation of 5600m and a 40 hours cut-off time. This difficult journey is nothing compared to the pain and suffering cancer patients go through.

I urge you to join me in supporting cancer research so less people will suffer the effects of cancer. Do your part now and make a gift! Thank you for your support!

About the Charity

Established in 2005, the NCC Research Fund supports innovative research to find the breakthroughs that will change how we understand, diagnose, treat and ultimately cure cancer.

With cancer research and care under one roof at the National Cancer Centre Singapore, the knowledge gained from patient-centric research fuels advancement in clinical care, which in turn provides knowledge that drives research. We firmly believe that today's research will pave the way for tomorrow's cure for cancer.

Please note that in the event that the donations made for a specific purpose/project:
(i) Are less than the minimum $10,000 to support an existing project OR
(ii) Has no new applicable project after a 2-year waiting period, the NCC Research Fund Board of Trustees reserves the right to channel these donations to the Fund's general pool in support of other worthy research projects.

Please note that donations must be made before 15 December for processing and be included in time for tax assessment in the same year.

Fundraising can help to raise more and change more lives.
