The National Book Development Council of Singapore (The Book Council) is a charity focused on Building Our Imagine-nation to develop creativity, imagination and original thought by supporting the creation of local stories through writing, reading, illustrating and storytelling.
It All Starts With A Story.
**In 2018, The Book Council will celebrate its 50th anniversary, and mark five decades of working towards the growth and development of the literary arts scene in Singapore.
The Book Council focuses on three core areas: festivals, awards and training.
It is the organiser of two literary festivals: the Asian Festival of Children's Content and the All In! Young Writers Festival.
It presents several annual and biennial awards, including the Singapore Literature Prize; the Hedwig Anuar Childrens Book Award for published works; and the Scholastic Picture Book Award for unpublished works.
Its training arm, the Academy of Literary Arts and Publishing, also runs publishing-related and literary arts-focused courses and workshops throughout the year.
