About Us
Since its inception in 2010, My Community has made its mark in the arts, cultural and heritage sectors. Its work has spurred the growth and development of a common-man approach to history where everyday experiences of Singaporeans are chronicled and celebrated.
Today, My Community's core mission remains the same. The non-profit organisation works to capture and preserve community stories, reconnect people to places and social networks, and deepen heritage appreciation and expression across the country. It also advocates for greater community involvement in cultural management and urban governance processes.
Founded by Kwek Li Yong and Jasper Tan in 2008, the organisation was formally registered as a society on 26th August 2010. On 12th December 2015, My Community was registered as a charity under the Charities Act. A year later, on 13 December 2016, it was minted as an Institution of a Public Character.
In 2019, it established an executive arm to manage its growing portfolio of community heritage programmes conducted in partnership with public, private and civil society organisations. Prior to that, My Community, in collaboration with residents and other community stakeholders, developed and rolled out the first community museum in Tanglin Halt.
My Community is supported by an army of 700 volunteers who work with a nimble team of staff to organise guided tours, exhibitions, festivals and other arts, heritage and placemaking programmes in Queenstown and beyond.

Our Programmes
My Community is a close-knitted group of community arts and heritage enthusiasts. We are bound by our love for our shared love for our communities, and our common belief in the importance of facilitating greater community involvement in cultural management and urban governance.
Our fast-growing civic society group comprises several hundred volunteers who are at any one time helping out in a variety of tasks spanning research, curation, advocacy, operations and administrative work. All the projects My Community undertakes are ground-up in nature, and volunteers have the freedom to innovate and introduce programmes they think will benefit the communities we work in.
(1) Cultural Mapping
We conduct cultural mapping in Queenstown by conducting oral history interviews, archiving architectural plans and layout, documenting events and lived experiences, and collecting tangible assets.
(2) Community Archives
We operate a community archives to collect, catalogue and maintain objects, documents and artefacts that are cultural significant to the communities
(3) Community Tours
My Community's volunteer guides currently lead ten community heritage tours. Our heritage tours are diligently curated, and offer participants a chance to visit landmarks and hear about the experiences of people to engage with the past.
