About Campaign

ends 12 May 2018, 11:59 PM
Metropolitan YMCA (MYMCA) Community Services consists of a team of dedicated staff and volunteers which constantly work towards enriching the lives of the less fortunate in a variety of ways.

We believe in nurturing children and developing youths to become socially responsible adults through our myriad of youth and outreach programmes like M.Y Mentoring (where secondary school youths are mentored to improve their social-emotional skills) and M.Y Big Sweep (where volunteers clean the homes of the elderly or incapacitated residents on a regular basis to improve their living conditions and also lift up their spirits)

We also reach out to individuals and families who face huge financial, social and emotional challenges, for example low-income families with sole breadwinners who have been retrenched, incapacitated, or incarcerated.

Through MY Manna, we give practical support to such families to bridge extreme circumstances. We do this by providing basic provisions such as rice, cooking oil, groceries and toiletries on a monthly basis, according to the needs and preferences of our beneficiaries.

The cost of serving our beneficiaries through our outreach programmes runs up to more than $600,000 a year. Every dollar donated to our annual MYMCA Flag Day held this 12 May 2018 will make a difference to their lives. All donations are eligible for 250% tax exemption. Join us in giving today!

About the Charity

Metropolitan YMCA (MYMCA) leads positive community transformation with a special focus on children and youths. We nurture our children and work with our youth to identify their aspirations and amplify their efforts to reach the community for positive transformation. Apart from our community and youth impact efforts, we are also a social enterprise, providing affordable F&B and hospitality services. All net surpluses from our F&B and hospitality businesses contribute to our M. Y programmes which reach out to impact the community positively. The first YMCA was set-up by a group of youths led by George Williams in 1844 London to counter social ills resulting from the Industrial Revolution. Likewise, in post-war Singapore, Dr Chen Su Lan, a medical practitioner who fought the wide-spread use of opium, saw the need for youths to be engaged in wholesome activities. He formed the Chinese YMCA in 1946, catering to the Chinese-speaking community which made up more than 75% of the resident population in Singapore. The Chinese YMCA offered skills, vocational and recreation courses and attracted wide support from the community. In 1974, the Chinese YMCA changed its name to Metropolitan YMCA and set up a new building for headquarters at 60 Stevens Road largely through the generous support of the Lee Foundation and Shaw Foundation. We are registered as a Society (UEN No. S63SS0006B), gazetted as a Charity (Charities No. 0089), and recognized as an Institute of Public Character (IPC No. 000433). Our subsidiary, MY World Preschool Ltd, provides infant and childcare services. Locally in Singapore, we are a member of the National Council of Social Services, a corporate member of the People's Association, an associate member of the National Youth Council, the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre, and the National Council of Churches in Singapore. Internationally, we are part of the World Alliance of YMCAs, Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs, as well as an active member of the YMCA World Urban Network.
