About Campaign
ends 06 Nov 2016, 11:59 PMImagine being confined to a wheelchair as a child, facing gradual weakening of muscles and losing the ability to do even the simple tasks like lifting your hands. These are the effects caused by Muscular Dystrophy (MD). MD is more than just a disability; it is a life-threatening muscle deteriorating condition. MD affects one physically, mentally and financially.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore), MDAS, is a non-profit voluntary welfare organisation supporting people with MD and their families who are facing this incurable condition. MDAS provides holistic care for persons with MD, which includes supporting their evolving physical and medical needs as they weaken as well as ensuring that they acquire essential life skills and confidence which are crucial to face the challenges ahead.
The association needs to raise $700,000 annually to support programmes and services which helps members look beyond the devastating effects of MD and start believing in their abilities. Members with MD can also lead purposefully lives - no different from anyone else.
Your generous donation will go into providing essential transport services, financial assistance, physiotherapy, health education and life-skills training.

Persons with MD face challenges with activities of daily living, from flipping a page in a book, to toileting and bathing. Many persons with MD have to rely on mobility aids, especially a motorised wheelchair, in order to commute. There is currently no known cure for MD.
