Imagine supporting over 200 families with children with cancer!

Sister Laura Tan is integral to these families beyond medical care as life-line support. She is LOVE, NILS' Care Coordinator at the National University Hospital paediatric oncology wards, deemed an essential service. A Care Coordinator is a health professional who focuses on the patients needs, guiding them and their caregivers through the healthcare system, working to overcome obstacles in the way of the patient getting necessary care and treatment. This role provides emotional and community support through integrative therapies, housing, home and school visits, educational talks, identifying financial resources, facilitating communication with healthcare providers, and non-insured needs such as transportation and more. These are crucial in boosting a child and their families' chances to overcome cancer.

The Care Coordinator is integral. It begins at the time of childhood cancer diagnosis and they help encourage and empower, taking the children and their families through every step of the journey.

LOVE, NILS donated $100,000 to NUH's paediatric oncology department to fund their first ever children's cancer Care Coordinator. These funds provided a two year position in 2019. It is because of people like you who made that dream happen. Let's do it again for another year!

$50,000 will provide one year of continued support to children with cancer and their caregivers in and out of the hospital ward.

About the Charity

At LOVE, NILS we provide support to children with cancer and their caregivers with much needed healthcare guidance, emotional care plus social and community support that will enable them to thrive.

Where do you even begin? Parents seeking treatment for their child have to find their way through complex, often puzzling healthcare systems. Both parent and child face immense challenges to their well-being, such as anxiety, isolation and depression. To stand a better fighting chance, families need guidance, emotional care, a strong community and other forms of support that some hospitals may not be able to fully provide.

THE WORK - Holistic support with a difference.
LOVE, NILS provides families with knowledge, resources and community support at every step of the way. We're the only non-profit in Singapore that raises funds to pay for Care Coordinators who guide patients and caregivers to receive the help they need.

We believe it takes a village to heal a child. And that's why we hold regular toy drives, events, school programs and hospital visits involving many dedicated individuals, to keep children and caregivers socially engaged, hopeful and resilient. This way, they know they're not alone in the fight.
