About Campaign

For three years, Mdm N went through hell. Her unfaithful husband verbally abused her. On top of that, two of her children were diagnosed with chronic illnesses. As a result, the sole breadwinner and main caregiver of four dependents lost her job. Every day was spent in tears. "I was so depressed that I could barely get out of bed," she recalls. "I could not see beyond my helplessness."

Lakeside Family Services applied for financial schemes for the family, gave Mdm N regular counselling, and got a Personal Protection Order to put a stop to her husband's harassment. Her children were enrolled at Lakeside Student Care, and benefitted from guitar classes and sponsored tuition. "(Lakeside social worker) Elaine encouraged me to be strong for my children," says Mdm N. "They only have me."

Although tragedy struck again when her son's condition took a turn for the worse and he needed major surgery, Mdm N no longer felt helpless. "Elaine helped me to accept my circumstances and be forward-looking," says Mdm N, who found a way to balance family life and the demands of her new job. "I tell my children to study hard and remember all the help they've received. Eventually, we need to give back to others in similar situations."

We hope to expand our work to similarly address the needs of vulnerable children, youths, seniors, and families by developing more facilities and programmes.
