About Campaign

It is hard enough when one is single and has been in and out of prison in the past year. On top of that 37-year old Madam Edna (not her real name) was the sole parent to her 3 young children. Without a job or a home she was in a critical situation when she came to Lakeside Family Services for help. The family was severely under stress. Our social worker swung into action with a multi-pronged helping plan, to ease their hardship.

Firstly, Lakeside assisted with immediate financial assistance to her family. In 5 months, Madam Edna found a job as a kitchen helper through Lakeside's links with employment agencies and her children were granted school pocket money and child care support. By appealing to HDB, we managed to secure housing for her family. Now, after further counselling and family bonding programmes, the relationships in the family have been strengthened and restored.

At Lakeside, we see over 1,200 families a year in situations similar to Madam Edna's. However, every case needs unique intervention and support which requires a lot of resources. To run these helping services, Lakeside needs to raise about $900,000 a year, as our programmes and services are not fully funded by government grants.

As the year-end season approaches, we appeal to you to remember the families and individuals who are still struggling. With your contribution to our work, we can make each step of their journey that little bit easier. All donations are eligible for 2.5 times tax deduction.
