About Campaign

The COVID-19 pandemic is having a compounding effect on some of the most vulnerable communities in Singapore - exploited migrant workers and the wider migrant community that HAGAR walks with every day.

Since April, Singapore has seen a staggering surge in COVID-19 infections amongst migrant workers concentrated in dormitories, crossing the 26,000 mark in total confirmed cases in our city-state.

With the massive COVID-19 sweeping across Singapore, majority of foreign worker dormitories have been gazetted as isolation areas. Affected workers are unable to continue work, and there are others who are stranded as they are unable to start on their new jobs due to the circuit breaker. Being the sole breadwinner in their households, many fear losing their jobs and catching the virus; migrant workers are facing immense stress and anxiety during this crucial time.

More than ever, HAGAR needs your support to ensure that those that we work with have a future, beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, where they thrive. To date, HAGAR has increased its support to more dormitories, responding to more than 3,000 migrant workers. Your donation will go towards alleviating their critical needs in these ways:

1. Hot meals and essential supplies i.e. face masks, hand sanitisers, cleaning detergents
2. Economic support to those who have lost their jobs, or without income
3. Healthcare support for workers with medical conditions
4. Tele-counselling for distressed workers

About the Charity

HAGAR is an international NGO committed to the recovery and economic empowerment of women and children who are survivors of extreme human rights abuse, particularly in the area of human trafficking, gender-based violence, and sexual exploitation.

We are in 10 countries worldwide. For women and girls, the threat of sexual exploitation and abuse is grave, and 10% of these clients have intellectual disabilities. HAGAR receives into our care those who have suffered the worst of human conditions and many are referred to HAGAR by the local government and non-governmental organisations in the country. We walk the whole journey with each individual, ensuring holistic healing, legal and physical protection, social rehabilitation, education and economic empowerment for eventual reintegration into society.

In Singapore, we provide legal aid, trauma recovery services, and skills training for girls trafficked to Singapore for sexual exploitation. Further to that, Hagar also assists by coordinating their return to their home country and resettle them in their communities upon conclusion of their court hearings in Singapore.

The ultimate goal is to help each of these trafficked and abused survivors get over their painful past, realise their innate potential and put them on the path of self-sustainability where they will be able to help themselves in the long run. Our purpose is singular. We do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to restore a broken life.
