Food from the Heart (FFTH) started the School Goodie Bag Programme 14 years ago with the belief that no child should ever have to go to school on an empty stomach. Working with various schools around Singapore, FFTH supplies monthly non-perishable food items to families of school children under the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS). These food packs help defray living expenses by supplementing basic food necessities as rice, milk, eggs and cooking oil. All it takes to support a student and their family is $55 for a month, or $660 for a year; just $1.81 per day.

Singapore Home Cooks, a popular Facebook Group with more than 170,000 passionate home cooks as members, hope to help FFTH fundraise $33,000 to support 50 students under the School Goodie Bag Programme for a year. By helping these students from needy families meet their basic needs, they can begin to focus on learning and receive a high quality education. When you get involved with the School Goodie Bag Programme, you help young men and women get the knowledge they need to avoid poverty in adulthood.

About the Charity

Food from the Heart (FFTH) is a non-profit charity organization established in February 2003 after Singapore-based Austrian couple Henry and Christine Laimer read an article in The Sunday Times about bakeries discarding their unsold bread. Stirred, they then decided to channel surplus food from bakeries to those in need. Food from the Heart has since evolved to become a resource bank, taking in non-perishable food items, toys and toiletries besides bread, whilst recycling and rechanneling whatever we can to good use. As the need for services continue to grow, innovative programmes were added to not just alleviate hunger but also bring joy and hope, touching lives in every possible way.
