About Campaign
ends 31 Mar 2023, 11:59 PMImagine. You open your map app on your phone, it gives you all the confidence on how to get where you want to go; assurance on the path to take, distance, estimated timing. We take this for granted when going out to meet friends or family.
However, do you see a wheelchair option for navigation? Wheelchair users currently are not given the sense of confidence when wanting to head somewhere. It can take up to 10 times longer for a wheelchair user to get to a desired location as they could face unknown obstacles along the way.
Travelling around Singapore isn't easy for everyone. Let's come together to build a wheelchair accessible Singapore.
Why this is important?
Most wheelchair users are restricted to the area where they live, it's difficult to venture into the unknown. Is there an overhead bridge with a lift? Does the mall have a ramp I can access? How far is the next pedestrian crossing with a gentle slope? These are all factors that matter when a wheelchair user plans to leave the area where they reside. With Singapore's ageing population, we will only see the number of wheelchair users increase.
Let's give them the confidence to venture out to the whole of Singapore by providing them with reliable information of the area and the route they can take!
About the Charity
Disabled People's Association (DPA) is Singapore's only cross-disability non-profit organisation. We represent the disability community, working to build a fairer society where everyone can participate in all aspects of life from education to employment and access to social integration.
What we do?
A Voice of Our Own: We are an organisation for people with disabilities run by people with disabilities. We provide a platform for all people with disabilities to speak up and ensure their voices are heard.
How we do it?
We help the disability community have a voice in society by working with decision-makers in political, commercial and educational institutions so that no decision that impacts us is made without us. We also provide training for both people with disabilities and the public, so we can work together to create an inclusive, accessible society we are all proud of.
