About Campaign

The theme for IDEP 2021 is "Building Forward Together: Ending Persistent Poverty, Respecting all People and our Planet". With building towards a better future in mind and ending the poverty cycle, we launched Broaden Horizons (BH), a traineeship programme targeted at low-income women between the ages of 18 - 30 years old. We hope to do our part by offering access to careers in industries with better pay and better prospects, thereby enabling these young women towards ending the poverty cycle for themselves.

Many women are forced to juggle care for their families and their careers, but for women in lower-income communities this further affects women with regards to the type of jobs they can secure, given their current caregiving situation. In Singapore, women are 2.6 times more likely than men to work part-time, rather than full-time, due to family and personal commitments (MRSD, MOM 2021).

For women from lower-income communities, stable employment opportunities that pay 'living wages' become even sparser. Coupled with an average of secondary to partial N/O levels education, as well as common lack of extensive experience, women in this demographic struggle with finding permanent full-time opportunities that pay sufficient compensation and offer comprehensive benefits.
