Conservation International Singapore is establishing the Singapore Blue Carbon Insitute. This institute aims to be a global leadership center based in Singapore to build capacity by developing relevant scientific, finance, and related skills. In addition, the institute will present an opportunity to further escalate the progress of blue carbon finance, policy, and research.

Blue carbon refers to the carbon stored by marine and coastal ecosystems such as mangroves, seagrasses, and tidal marshes. These ecosystems can sequester two to four times and store up to 10 times more carbon than forests. However, to realize the immense potential of these ecosystems to scale impact for climate, communities, and biodiversity, we urgently need to address two key challenges:
1. A severe shortage of capacity to design and implement blue carbon projects and programs, and
2. A limited number of methodologies, tools, and other technical supports are needed for blue carbon policy and project development.

The institute will build multi-disciplinary capacity in Singapore and the region to research, design, implement and verify blue carbon-related programs, ensuring the scaling and delivery of high-quality projects.

This campaign will enable us to raise funds to establish the institute. Through our extensive scientific research and world-leading expertise in blue carbon, we will provide opportunity and guidance for the SG Green Plan goals.

All donations qualify for the Tote Board match.

About the Charity

PEOPLE NEED NATURE TO THRIVE - Conservation International Singapore Conservation Trust (CSCT) envisions a vibrant, resilient, and sustainable Singapore for generations to come and aims to empower the community to care for and value nature's benefit to people.

CSCT's work focuses on environmental education, university internships, conservation science, research, and climate finance. We partner with the private and civil sectors to encourage environmental responsibility and sustainability through innovative conservation solutions such as natural climate solutions.

Our Environmental Education Program takes the local to global approach, where youth learn about conservation science and sustainability in an urban environment while connecting with Singapore's natural heritage. The knowledge and skills imparted through school talks, outdoor education and mentorship programs, and fun virtual learning videos help shape behaviors and empower youths to consider their impact on the environment.

We work closely with local universities to provide undergraduate and graduate students opportunities to take up paid internships or carry out field research and conservation activities with Conservation International offices across the Asia-Pacific region.

Conservation International Singapore Conservation Trust is an organization approved by the Commissioner of Charities bearing the Institution of Public Character (IPC) status.
