Mr Tan Eng Peng, 57, has been a stroke patient since 2002. After surviving the stroke is unable to work and provide for the family. His wife, Mdm Ong, was found to be diagnosed with advanced-stage Breast Cancer. Three years after, she had a relapse and was diagnose with final-stage Spine Cancer. She is currently undergoing treatment. They have a son who has completed his Polytechnic course and is in the midst of serving NS.

We have been providing assistance to this family such as rehabilitation and therapeutic services, monthly food provision and financial funding for hospital bills. However, the family still needs more financial assistance to help defray their medical and household expenses.

This is the story of one of our beneficiaries at Xin Yuan Community Care. We hope to give more financial assistance to our elderly and needy children and their families, but we are often faced with limitations. "Xin Yuan" means the heart's desire and it is our wish to continue serving our Community and fulfilling their heart's desire.

About the Charity

Xin Yuan Community Care (XYCC), set up in May 2005, is a registered member of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) and is also an Institution of Public Character (IPC). Our charity is committed to providing regular financial assistance and other forms of therapeutic, health, and educational support to 200 needy elderly as well as 50 underprivileged children from low-income families in the Bishan-Toa Payoh area.

We do so by providing daily group exercise activities for our elderly led by our fitness trainer. We also provide the space and opportunity for our elderly to interact with each other, or with volunteers, which also provides social and emotional support. In addition, XYCC provides financial support to needy families, giving them monthly grocery supplies and subsidies.

We also ensure that we hold festive celebrations such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Lantern Festival, Deepavali and Christmas for all our beneficiaries and their families.

Fundraising can help to raise more and change more lives.
