Snowy came to SOSD after spending his previous 8 years as a breeding dog, never having the opportunity to know a home of his own. We initially thought he was younger but over several vets visits to nurse him back to health, we started to realise he was more senior and definitely deserving of a comfortable and loving home. Snowy is one example of the dogs we see where the lack of medical care over the years has taken its toll. His dental condition was shocking and we had to do a full mouth extraction - every tooth was rotten and painful. Over the first month we treated his tick fever and started to treat him with liver supplements. He was placed with fosterers who showered him with love and taught him how to adapt to life without bars.
As he got well enough and confident to move about and exercise more , the fosterers noticed his walking gait was not quite normal, and we found through x'rays that he had a bad case of hip displacia on both sides, though the left was particularly bad. We tried several rounds of joint injections to see if the condition could be managed medically, but unfortunately Snowy will need surgery to at least one hip to be able to enjoy his retirement without constant pain.
At SOSD we wish we could provide all the treatments our dogs deserve. Snowy's medical bill will run into several thousands of dollars
