Our Campaign Story

ends 30 Nov 2022, 11:59 PM

We are the youths from The Grit Academy Boon Lay, a mentoring programme under Lakeside Family Services. Over the past few months, we have challenged ourselves by trying new activities such as rock-climbing, night cycling, kayaking and many more. We had the chance to journey together with our mentors and build meaningful relationships.

For our last activity as a group, we wanted to contribute to the The Million Steps campaign to also help ex-offenders and their families in their own journeys. We will be planning and co-leading our very own "The GRIT Walk" with our mentors. In addition, we will use our social media to spread awareness amongst our friends and family. Please walk alongside by supporting this meaningful cause!

About Campaign

For the third year in a row, Lakeside Family Services is organising A Million Steps to raise funds for our programmes serving (ex-)inmates and their families.

We hope to continue walking with (ex-)inmates in their journey of reintegration: Imparting life skills, preparing them for life after release, guiding them as they navigate challenges, and providing referral services for them and their families.

We will also be expanding our work to include aftercare services such as employment support through job matching and career coaching, plus family bonding activities to strengthen family ties.

Lakeside provides a wide range of services, including:

1. Family Resource Centre, a one-stop centre for inmates and their families

2. Case Management Support for inmates on the Work Release Scheme

3. Life skills workshops through our Release Preparation Programme

4. Televisit services for families to visit their loved ones in prison through our teleconferencing facility

5. Holistic programmes for financial assistance, family bonding, and casework support after release

To emphasise the importance of family and community support, our fundraising campaign is titled Walking With You. Do walk with us, clock your steps, and invite your friends and family to support your walk! For more info, visit https://lakeside.org.sg/support-us/a-million-steps/
