Our Campaign Storyends 30 Nov 2020, 11:59 PM
*Update: 24 Oct 20. Walked the gruelling more than 35km or so... whole body aching and can't imagine putting myself through this again. Symbolically, it's often a long, tough, arduous and lonely journey for ex(inmates) to recovery. Last evening 8pm till this morning about 7:30am, it was the companionship that encouraged most of our aching backs, shoulders, thighs, calfs, heels, toes, feet to carry on to the end, not forgetting those that supplied water and food replenishments along the way that was essential.
*Update: 37,455 Steps or 35.7km (see pic) 19 to 30 Sep. I'm only counting the steps that I actually run specifically. That's about 7 times around Bedok Reservoir already!*
I share the convictions of my good friends Tee Loon, and Daryl, the two that I personally know who work in Lakeside FSC doing good work!
Many of us live with privileges and comfort that some can only dream of and often seem illusive. I hope as you give, you will find time to reach out, listen and care for someone who has had to live in pain and hurt because of a bad decision in life, whether of their own fault or of that of a family member. Lakeside FSC can be that bridge towards hope that most of us cannot.
Why $2,020? What a year 2020! It's our 20th Anniversary. I run/walk about 50,000 steps per week, so 200,000 steps in about 4 weeks. I trust we have enough friends who would believe in the cause to reach that... we of little faith :)
Thank you in advance!
A Million Steps raises funds for Lakeside Family Services' work serving (ex-)inmates and their families.
We aim to inspire hope, reconnect families, and support them in their journey to reintegration.
Lakeside provides a wide range of services, including the Family Resource Centre, a one-stop centre for prisoners and their families, which is based at Changi Prison Link Centre.
We also provide Case Management Support for those who are on the Work Release Scheme, as well as life skills workshops through our Release Preparation Programme.
In addition, Lakeside provides Televisit services for families to visit their loved ones in prison through our teleconferencing facility, as well as holistic programmes for financial assistance, family bonding, and casework support after they are released.
While some of these programmes are funded by Singapore Prisons Services, other value-added services still require fundraising support to provide for the needs of ex-inmates and their families.
Staff, volunteers & friends of Lakeside will attempt to walk A Million Steps to raise $280,000.
