Having worked with people with disabilities and myself being a person with disability, I have the strong belief that kids have to be exposed to different things in order to develop. A child's not going to find out he likes to play a musical instrument if you never exposed him to it. SPD is doing an important activity in training autistic people in diamond craft, a craft that requires extremely fine hand-eye coordination & dexterity. While completing the diamond art, they are trained to gradually increase the length of time that they are able to concentrate on a work task, and also their sitting tolerance. So please support them in their development.
'Diamond art has helped Ignatius improve his concentration when performing a task and also his sitting tolerance. I am very proud of him.' - Mdm Cynthia, Mother
Ignatius has autism with moderate cognitive delays and is one of the clients at SPD's Day Activity Centre. Together with other individuals with autism spectrum disorder, they carry out a series of activities that taps on their strengths to increase their basic skills.
One of the activities that Ignatius enjoy is diamond art, a craft that requires extremely fine hand-eye coordination & dexterity. Mdm Cynthia has observed that diamond art has helped Ignatius to focus better when executing a task & he is able to sit for a longer period of time.
To show her support, Mdm Cynthia made a donation to SPD & received a diamond art created by Ignatius as a token of appreciation. She also bought additional sets of diamond art to do together at home. It has become a great bonding activity for them & that helped improve her anxiety and depression.
This April, as we celebrate the Autism Awareness Month, we hope that you can also show our clients your support by making a donation. For a donation of $50 & above, you will receive 1 x Diamond Art* as a token of our appreciation.
Once the donation is made, kindly email the confirmation screenshot or email to [email protected] & we will follow up with you.
You can also choose to make a donation & opt to not receive the diamond art. *Design of artwork is subject to availability.
About The Charity
SPD is a local charity set up in 1964 to help people with disabilities maximise their potential and be a part of mainstream society.
We are here to help children and youths with special needs reach for the stars and be the best that they can be through early intervention and educational support.
We strive to boost the self-reliance and mobility of persons with disabilities within the community, and we do so through therapy services, assistive technology and the support and encouragement of our care team.
Our day care programmes provide respite to families, making it possible for persons with disabilities to stay with their loved ones at home for as long as possible without having to resort to institutional care.
A strong advocate for inclusive employment, we train people with disabilities and work with them to seek suitable employment opportunities so that they can be financially independent and lead a full and engaged life.
After more than 50 years, we remain focused and committed to enabling people with disabilities.
