Our Campaign Story

ends 15 Dec 2021, 11:59 PM

This Christmas, SingPost is partnering Lions Befrienders Service Association to raise funds to gift vulnerable seniors with Walking Sticks and Foldable Grocery Trolleys.

80% of the 7,800 vulnerable seniors at Lions Befrienders have weak knees and legs due to ageing or underlying health conditions. As a result, they struggle with balance and postural issues, leading to a high fall risk.

Seniors prefer to use walking sticks or trolleys as walking aids to prevent them from falling, walk confidently over longer distance, and live independently. These walking aids are also used to improve postural stability and to decrease the load on their weak legs.

Some other benefits include:
- Reducing their burden in carrying bulky items
- Motivating them to walk further distance for longer periods of time
- Allowing them to rest while walking
- Lowering the risk of falling
- Helping them to walk steadily
- Giving them confidence to live independently
- Boosting their self-esteem and dignity

Your donations will count towards the purchase of Foldable Grocery Trolleys (S$42.50 each) and Walking Sticks with Chair (S$40.00 each). SingPost will be providing logistic support in the distribution of these items to the seniors post-campaign.

We thank you for your generosity. Let's make this Christmas a special one for our vulnerable seniors!

About The Charity

Established in 1995, LB has more than 25 years of experience in befriending and caring for seniors in order for them to age in place in the community. Over the years, LB strives to address the varied needs of more than 86,000 seniors by adopting a senior-centric approach in its eldercare services. Leveraging on the support of some 1,000 regular volunteers, we actively engage more than 6,000 at-risk seniors via a spectrum of integrated eldercare service from preventive to intervention through comprehensive programmes, including social, emotional, mental and physical, to improve their quality of life.

Amid the challenges in the eldercare landscape, LB undertakes constant review and adjustment to its programmes and services. Under our Community Outreach arm, we currently operate 10 Senior Activity Centres, 3 Cluster Support, 2 Senior Group Homes and Home Personal Care services. Our Befriending arm extends island-wide befriending services to socially isolated seniors. For its exemplary disclosure and corporate governance practices, LB was conferred the Charity Transparency Award by the Charity Council in 2016 and 2017.
