Our Campaign Story

ends 27 Feb 2023, 11:59 PM

Yesterday evening, we found Bongo in his enclosure hunched over with a distended belly. We had a bad feeling that it was bloat, so we quickly rushed to him to an emergency vet. True, enough, x-rays showed that he did indeed have Gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV).

We have no time to waste. Surgery is estimated to cost up to $7000, excluding hospitalization. Once Bongo's blood tests results came back to indicate that he was fit enough for surgery, we quickly agreed to proceed with the surgery.

Surgery was performed late into the night, and the vet called us at 2am to update us that it went as well as can be. And all we can do now is wait and pray that he continues to recover well. GDV is extremely life-threatening, and even after surgery, the next 48 hours are crucial in ascertaining if Bongo is going to survive.

Please keep Bongo in your prayers, and donate if you can! Thank you!

About Campaign

#Applied for Dollar-for-Dollar Matching Grant by TOTE Board Enhanced Fundraising Programme

Thank you for your continuous support for our work through the years. It is only with your donations, that we are able to continue caring for the 60 dogs at our shelter at The Animal Lodge, 30 dogs with fosterers, 150 dogs at our shelter in Jurong Island and even more strays still roaming out there.

Many of our original rescues have been adopted, but there are some that have stayed with us through the years due to difficulties in getting them adopted. This means an ageing population of dogs that we are now looking after.

We have also taken in more old, sick, or injured dogs. With each rescue, depending on their condition, their initial visit to the vet could easily set us back by more than $1,000. If they're ill, and need to be warded, the vet bills climb steadily with each passing day that they spend at the vet for proper care and treatment.

Do donate if you can, so we can continue to help these dogs in need. Thank you!

About The Charity

SOSD is committed to enhancing the welfare of Singapore's street dogs. Our mission is to eliminate animal cruelty and abandonment, improve animal and human lives, and enhance animal welfare through education, rescue, and advocacy efforts.

At SOSD, we rely on the public's generosity to support our shelters located at Sungei Tengah and Jurong Island. Your contribution can make a real difference in the lives of rescued dogs, providing them with shelter, food, medicine, veterinary care, and most importantly, love.

Donations made through GivingSG will be combined with other contributions to provide food, medicine, and veterinary care, as well as support for dogs under SOSD's care. Donations may also be used to cover operational expenses for our shelters, including utilities, water, rental, transport costs, and expenses associated with our TNRM program. This applies to all SOSD campaigns.

When you donate to SOSD, your information will be automatically submitted to IRAS. Thank you for considering a donation to support our mission and make a difference in the lives of our furry friends.
