Our Campaign Story

ends 23 Oct 2022, 11:59 PM

We are Retro Recipes, an initiative partnered with LBS under YMCA's Youth For Causes. Our aim is to bridge intergenerational gap between youths and seniors through our common interest of food in order to encourage many people our age to converse with our elders. The reason for our guiding principles being this is that one way we can reduce social isolation among the elderly is through a greater understanding of them and the culture they have sprouted among themselves. We are carrying out this project through creating a recipe book with recipes from seniors at LBS and from our own family and friends, ranging from various cultures such as Indian, Chinese, Indonesian, Malay and Thai.

A preview of the book with a recipe from Ms. Yani is shown as a part of the campaign's picture!

The recipe book contains 15 recipes accompanied with a story about the senior's relationship with the dish. This book will be priced at $20 and will be sold in a DIGITAL FORMAT ONLY. Contributors can directly donate to this campaign and if a minimum of $20 is donated, a copy of the book will be e-mailed to you PROVIDED THE QR CODE SHOWN IN THE CAMPAIGN PICTURES IS SCANNED. THIS WOULD LEAD TO A FORM, DETAILS REGARDING NAME, GIVING.SG USERNAME, EMAIL, AND PHONE NUMBER WILL ONLY BE ASKED.

The e-book will take roughly 1-2 working days due to crosschecking contributions prior to emailing you.

About The Charity

Established in 1995, LB has more than 25 years of experience in befriending and caring for seniors in order for them to age in place in the community. Over the years, LB strives to address the varied needs of more than 86,000 seniors by adopting a senior-centric approach in its eldercare services. Leveraging on the support of some 1,000 regular volunteers, we actively engage more than 6,000 at-risk seniors via a spectrum of integrated eldercare service from preventive to intervention through comprehensive programmes, including social, emotional, mental and physical, to improve their quality of life.

Amid the challenges in the eldercare landscape, LB undertakes constant review and adjustment to its programmes and services. Under our Community Outreach arm, we currently operate 10 Active Ageing Centres, 3 Cluster Support, 2 Senior Group Homes and Home Personal Care services. Our Befriending arm extends island-wide befriending services to socially isolated seniors. For its exemplary disclosure and corporate governance practices, LB was conferred the Charity Transparency Award by the Charity Council in 2016 and 2017.
