Our Campaign Story

A team of happy people.

We've always been so privileged and we've never had to go a day without pocket money... But what about those who have?

We want to help, and The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF) aids children and youth of low-income families get through school. Since the project started in 2000, the Fund has disbursed close to $50m and helped over 130,000 cases of children and youth in providing them with monthly school pocket money. Easing the burden, children can use this money for school-related expenses, such as buying a meal during recess, paying for their transport or using it to meet other schooling needs.

About Campaign

The picture shows Charmaine, aged 13, a beneficiary of The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.

Her father, the sole breadwinner, works on shift as a cleaning attendant to support the family of four while her mother spends most of her time taking care of Charmaine’s 12-year-old brother who has intellectual disability.

Life has not been easy for the family, who is living in a three-room flat and gets by on less than $1,200 per month. Despite their circumstances, Charmaine excels in her studies and hopes to give her family a better life ahead.

The Fund aims to help beneficiaries like Charmaine and her family by giving them financial assistance and emotional support.

About NPO

The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund provides pocket money to children from low-income families to help them through school. The children can use this money for school-related expenses, such as buying a meal during recess, paying for transport or using it to meet other schooling needs. The financial help also eases the burden of the many parents who are already struggling to feed their families on their meagre incomes.

The Fund supports about 10,000 children and youth a year. Since the year 2000, the Fund has disbursed more than $55m and helped over 150,000 children and youth.

STSPMF disburses the funds to needy students through participating mainstream schools and disbursing agencies such as Youth Centres, Family Service Centres (FSCs), Special Education (SPED) schools, VWOs working with persons with disability, specialised schools, Children's Homes and PAVE.
