Pledge it Forward is an initiative by The Social Co and Be An Idea.
The Social Co. was founded by Rebekah Lin and Cheryl Chong in 2014. They are the team behind 50 for 50, a youth-led initiative that activated young people to creatively raise funds and bring awareness to lesser-known charities in Singapore. They are also the folks behind The Social Pantry, a social enterprise that helps improve employability for people with disabilities.
Be An Idea, founded by Nadim van der Ros, is a strategic marketing consultancy that believes in building strong narratives and communities around brands. Nadim/Be An Idea is also behind Fuze Night, a leading platform in which socially conscious individuals and organisations can share their stories and learnings from their social movements and ground-up initiatives, all the while inspiring those in the audience to take action around the causes they believe in, too.
In February 2017, the Singapore government announced that a personal income tax rebate set at 20% of tax payable (capped at $500) will be given to all tax residents for income earned in 2016. So we thought - why not donate that savings of $500, or any amount of that, towards 51 charities that are doing an amazing job at building a stronger and more inclusive Singapore? 100% of your donations will be designated to 51 charities, who are registered as member organisations under NCSS and have IPC status. We are a fund-raising and engagement arm of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS). As such, our role and purpose are aligned with NCSS to ensure that every person has the opportunity to live a life of dignity to his or her fullest potential within our society. We raise funds to support social service organisations so that they can do what they are best at - caring for and serving the less advantaged.
Community Chest was established in 1983 with a simple yet vital mission - to raise funds for the many social service organisations of the nation. It is about raising funds from the community for the community in need.
Social service organisations supported by Community Chest are then able to do what they are best at - providing critical social service programmes to help children with special needs, youths-at-risk, adults with disabilities, frail and lonely elderly, families facing difficulties and persons with mental health issues.
Over the years, we have built an enduring trust and partnership with many organisations, foundations and individuals, enabling and empowering the social service users under our care to lead fulfilling lives.
At the heart of it all is our Patron-in-Chief, President Halimah Yacob, who will be lending her support to our social service organisations.
