Our Campaign Story

ends 10 May 2018, 11:59 PM

I am the Executive Director of AWARE.

In late May, I will be trekking and riding on horseback into the heart of Mongolia.

Together with 12 other intrepid women from Women on a Mission, we will be camping in gers in the wilderness of the Altai Mountains, visiting the renowned eagle hunters, and ascending up to 4,000 metres in search of adventure, snow-capped mountains, pristine rivers and lakes.

Aside from adventure, I am doing this to raise $10,000 for AWARE's #MeToo Action Fund that AWARE has set up to drive the #MeToo global movement against sexual assault and workplace harassmentin Singapore. I will pay for my own trip. So all of the monies raised through my campaign will go to AWARE.

When I am in Mongolia, I will also visit the National Center against Violence (NCAV), an NGO that deals with domestic and sexual violence against women and children in Mongolia. AWARE and NCAV have much in common and it will be really interesting to learn from them and to share our experiences.

This trip will be strenuous. I have started my training regime which consists of boot camp, intense stair work, long treks, horse-riding training, and tai chi practices.

For every $10 that is donated to AWARE's #Metoo Action Fund, I will donate $1 to Mongolia's NCAV.

Please support AWARE's #Metoo Action Fund and help me reach my fundraising goal. Every dollar and cent of your support counts. I look forward to sharing my story with you in person upon my return from Mongolia.

About The Charity

The Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE) is Singapore's leading gender equality advocacy organization. AWARE supports and empowers women on an individual basis and seeks to remove all gender-based barriers that prevent individuals in Singapore from developing their potential to the fullest and realizing their personal visions and hopes. It does this in three ways, namely, research and advocacy, education, and providing social services.

In 2016, AWARE won the Charity Governance Award 2016 for the Medium Charities/IPCs category.

The Charity Governance Awards, (CGA), organised by the Charity Council, aim to promote good governance in the charity sector by acknowledging the excelling work of charities, while inspiring others to emulate their best practices.

AWARE qualified as a candidate for the CGA by becoming a winner of the Charity Transparency Awards (CTA). The CTA recognises charities with good disclosure practices.
